-- for Thursday Thoughts
--from Pastor Steve
This week I will be attending the Northern California/Nevada Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. This means all the pastors in the conference, active and retired, and Lay Delegates from about 350 churches. Our delegates are Haati and Louise Nai. What happens at Annual Conference? New pastors are ordained, we recognize retiring pastors, and we celebrate the lives of pas-tors who have died in the last year. We elect officers, set the conference budget, and set directions and priorities for ministry, This year we will get to know our new leader, Bishop Carcano. Our Conference is divided into districts. Our district is called the El Camino District. It consists of about one hundred churches in the south bay and east bay and south on 101, Our District Superintendent, Rev. Staci Current called me the other day to ask me a few questions about our Neighborhood Ministry. She plans on highlighting this ministry of the First United Methodist Church in Salinas. This ministry of ours is recognized as one of the most exciting and faithful ministries going on throughout our conference. Thanks be to God that we can be an exam-ple to others of what it means to live the gospel. I will look forward to seeing you on Sun-day and sharing with you a little about the conference. Our preacher this Sunday will be our own Paul Aschenbrenner. He will share about the Kairos Prison ministry that he is involved in and speak on forgiveness.
See you on Sunday,
